Celebrating Three Years As An Ambassador

When Gail Huber's boyfriend unexpectedly passed, she had no choice but to move back to Albany. “For 16 years my boyfriend took care of me. When he died, I had nothing," Gail explains in a heartfelt conversation.

Although living with her son, she turned to our daytime shelter, Community Connections, for social interaction, case management, and meals.

One day her IPH Case Manager encouraged her to apply for an Ambassadors position and handed her an application. Three days later, she had her interview and proudly accepted her first job.

"I just love it. This is the first job I have ever had. If it wasn’t for IPH giving me this chance, I don’t think I would have been offered another job. Now is my chance to give back to the community and do something that makes me happy.”

On behalf of our IPH team, we wish to extend a heartfelt congratulations to Gail. On July 17th, she celebrates three years of dedication, hard work, and smiles with our Albany Ambassadors team!

Albany Ambassadors is an employment program that provides a unique opportunity for homeless or formerly homeless people to develop or enhance their skill set in preparation for the job market. Ambassadors are able to earn an income and build a reputable work history while receiving support from IPH staff.

The program provides the opportunity for participants to build professional and life skills, relationships, a sense of community, and financial stability. Partnering with local arts venues and businesses, Albany Ambassadors are responsible for greeting patrons, providing directions, answering questions, and maintaining a safe, clean and welcoming environment.
